Hi. First post, huh? I'm Scarlet Moore. Adventurous high school junior.
So I was inspired to create this blog because of the movie Julie and Julia, starring Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Stanley Tucci, and Chris Messina.
I believe that Meryl was nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of Julia Child. But even if you don't count Meryl, the movie overall is amazing, and a funny pick me up. Julie Powell (Adams) decides to cook all of the recipes within Child's famous cookbook, called Mastering the Art of French Cooking, within a single year, which sounds impossible because it contains difficult recipes such as aspics, lobster, and rice (I know rice sounds easy, but in the book it is deemed Bitch Rice due to difficulty). But somehow, with lots of butter, determination, and pure grit, Julie finishes on time, and creates a major blog in the process.
I wouldn't say it is a romantic comedy, but it is one of those good movies to watch if you're sad and alone on New Years' Eve. As I was this year.
But if I had to rate the book and movie, the book would get 3 out of 5 Quills, due to lots of profanity and inappropriate material. It is good, but Julie Powell does not write Children's Books for a reason.
The movie I would give a 4.5 out of 5 Quills. It is, most of the time, kid friendly, and summarizes the book without too much profanity or inappropriateness. Definitely in my DVD collection.
So, thanks for reading, and I hope you read again. Bye!
