Sorry I haven't posted in so long. I've just been really freaking busy, with homework and such and trying to stay alive on something more than pizza and Izzy juice drinks and coffee. I promise I'll post again soon.
I just had a speech and debate competition about two weeks ago at one of the local community colleges, and, in all honesty, it didn't go well.
Our rival school got our best HI disqualified, and I didn't even break freaking semifinals.
On the bright side, however, State Qualifiers are coming up.
Basically, for this competition, it doesn't matter how well you did on the other two competitions before this one.
Someone who didn't even have a chance at prelims last time might break to finals at State Quals. It's two days, so that must mean it's pretty intense.
There are just a few problems.
1. Lots of people on our team will be unable to attend, including our captains. You see,
this is because the tournament is on the same day at this special thing we do at our school. The 4 classes write a 15 minute play and then perform it at this fancy theatre. It's called Spring Sing. I directed my class during Freshman Year, and once it was all said and done (we tied for last place with the sophomores), I (luckily) made a vow to never do Spring Sing again, whether directing or even in the chorus.
HOWEVER - this is a schoolwide tradition, so a lot of people are doing it. Our captains are actually the directors for the senior class.
This is a double edged sword. Because a) there goes a pretty good chance of getting a win, but b) since I want to be captain so badly, this could show my everlasting loyalty to the team and I could possibly have a better chance at winning? It'll give me a chance to show my coach that I am Team Captain material.
2. I still need to choose my DI script, and it needs to be damn published. I found a really good script from the POV of a domestic violence victim, but it isn't published. It's a shame. But if I used it I'd be disqualified, and I don't want that to happen.
UGGGGGGGGH
